Washer Leaking During Spin

Which stage of the cycle the water appears in tells you more than the size of the puddle.

What the symptom actually tells you

Spin is when the machine drains hard, spins fast and moves most. So four very different faults show up at the same moment: a leak at a hose, connection or pump while water is being pushed out; a door or tub seal that passes water; a building standpipe that cannot take the flow and backs up; and plain splashing from a drum moving more than it should.

Where the puddle sits does not establish the source — water travels. An empty test cycle that looks fine does not rule anything out either, because the load is what creates the weight and the water. Suspension, loading and levelling, bearings and drive components are separate questions again, and a fault code is one clue, not a remote verdict on a component.

Stop a leaking or violently moving machine

Do not keep running loaded test cycles to reproduce heavy shaking — that is how further damage happens. Never hold the tub, bypass a lid or door interlock, open panels, or stand in water near powered equipment. Water backing up from the building drain may need a plumber rather than an appliance technician.

Inspection findings

LG WT1101CW: pump-assembly leak with excessive tub movement

Inspection found a leak at the drain-pump assembly and excessive tub movement associated with worn suspension. Work on both was recommended. No final repair outcome is documented in the selected record. Two concurrent conditions are recorded separately for exactly this reason: correcting the leak would not have settled the movement, and the reverse is equally true.

Further diagnosis; replacement recommended

Maytag top-loader: normal empty, severe shaking under a wet load

The basket spun normally when empty but shook severely with wet towels. Initial suspension work and later clutch work did not resolve the full mechanical problem. Further inspection documented excessive drive-shaft play and bearing wear, and replacement of the washer was recommended because further repair was considered uneconomical.

An empty cycle looked completely normal. Does that clear the machine?+

No. Leaks and heavy movement often appear only under a representative wet load, which is when the water, weight and speed are all present.

Does a leak during spin always mean the pump?+

No. Hose and pump connections, a door or tub seal, splashing from an unstable drum and an overflowing building standpipe all leave water on the same floor.
