Miele Dryer Says Clean the Plinth Filter
A Miele heat-pump dryer can extend a cycle or display a lint/plinth-filter message when airflow through its filter system is restricted. The message identifies an airflow-maintenance condition; it does not name a failed part.
What the message means
Miele heat-pump dryers recirculate process air and protect the heat exchanger with lint and plinth filters. The TXI680WP operating instructions call for plinth-filter cleaning when program duration has increased or when the filter message appears.
That makes the message useful, but not a complete diagnosis. It tells us the dryer has detected a condition consistent with restricted airflow. It does not establish whether the cause is ordinary lint, a filter that is still wet after cleaning, a damaged or deformed filter, residue deeper in the accessible air path, or another condition affecting drying performance.

Why the message may return after cleaning
On this appliance family, cleaning is only part of the result. The filter has to be intact, seated correctly and dry enough for operation. Miele also warns that reinstalling a dripping-wet plinth filter can cause a fault, while a worn or deformed filter can allow lint to reach the heat exchanger.
If the message returns, record what happens rather than repeatedly resetting the dryer:
- whether the cycle finishes or stops
- whether laundry is warm but still damp
- whether drying time has gradually increased
- whether the message appears immediately or near the end
- whether the plinth filter was recently washed or replaced
- the exact model and the language shown on the display
Safe owner checks
Follow the cleaning and drying instructions in the operating manual for the exact model. Clean only the owner-accessible lint and plinth filters, let the filter dry as instructed, and reinstall every piece in its proper position. Stop using the dryer for a burning smell, smoke, unusual overheating or a damaged filter.
Do not remove panels, bypass airflow protection, probe the refrigeration circuit, or use compressed air inside the appliance.
When service is appropriate
Arrange diagnosis when the filter message keeps returning after correct owner maintenance, cycles remain unusually long, the machine stops with a fault, condensate does not drain as expected, or the dryer shows heat or airflow symptoms the manual does not resolve.
A service assessment separates owner-maintenance items from airflow, condensate, sensing and heat-pump-system conditions. A part should be named only after the observed cycle and the model-specific service information support it.
