Thermador Microwave Burn Marks: An MCES Diagnostic Case
Burn marks inside a Thermador microwave deserve inspection before another cooking cycle. In this Thermador MCES/01 case, KONGRA documented discoloration in the cooking cavity and severe localized internal burning.

Inspection photo: dark marks are visible on the cavity sidewall and beneath the rectangular interior panel.
What the Thermador MCES inspection showed
The appliance was identified as a Thermador MCES/01 convection microwave. The cavity photograph shows a concentrated area of dark staining and visible scorching. A closer internal view documents heavily damaged metal with an eroded edge and discoloration around it.
These images record two views of the same inspection: the condition visible from the cooking cavity and the damage found farther inside the appliance. Together, they support the finding of internal burn damage. They do not establish that every dark mark has the same cause or that another microwave with similar marks has the same fault.
Internal diagnostic detail: localized burning, an eroded metal edge and surrounding discoloration. Photo taken during service access.
Thermador microwave sparking or burn marks: what to do
If the microwave sparks, produces a burning smell or shows new burn damage, stop the cooking cycle and arrange an inspection. Leave it out of use when damage is visible or the symptom repeats. Do not run another cycle just to capture a video for a service request.
Thermador's microwave troubleshooting guidance identifies metallic utensils and cookware as one thing to check when sparking occurs. That general guidance does not explain the severe internal damage documented here. Tell the technician what was in the oven and which cooking mode was selected when you first noticed the problem.
You can photograph the accessible cooking cavity with the appliance off and cool. Leave internal access and built-in removal to a qualified technician.
Why built-in microwave diagnosis includes the installation
A built-in microwave sits within a cabinet opening and trim assembly. Access, support and the surrounding finishes need to be considered when planning a visit. Send a wider photograph of the installation as well as the model label so the technician can understand how the appliance is fitted.
For the MCES, Thermador's installation and microwave safety instructions describe checks of door operation, sealing surfaces and internal microwave-system integrity before relevant service testing. They also call for a microwave leakage check before the oven is returned to the owner. Those are service requirements, not results claimed for the inspection shown here.
What to send with a Thermador service request
A useful request includes the exact model, your city, a photo of the installation and a short description of what changed. Mention whether the problem happens in microwave mode, convection mode or both. Include any display message and whether there was a flash, unusual sound, odor or loss of heating.
Describe what you already observed; there is no need to reproduce the fault. Photos help plan the appointment, while the condition of the appliance and service scope are established through inspection.
Thermador microwave diagnosis: common questions
Can I keep using a microwave with burn marks?
Keep it out of use when there is visible damage, repeated sparking or a burning odor, and arrange professional inspection. A photograph alone cannot confirm that the microwave is safe to operate.
Does a working display mean the microwave is safe?
No. An illuminated display does not establish the condition of the cooking cavity or the internal microwave system. Report the cooking behavior and any visible damage separately.
Can KONGRA inspect an older Thermador MCES?
KONGRA provides independent Thermador diagnostics, including the MCES case documented here. Send the full model and installation photos so access, visit availability and scope can be confirmed.
