Commercial Mixer Stops Under Load
A mixer that stops mid-batch is telling you about the demand it was under, the interlocks it was watching, or its own condition — and those are three different investigations.
What the symptom actually tells you
One easy mistake when describing this symptom is volume-based: the bowl was not full, so the batch must have been fine. Volume is only part of the demand. Hydration, the recipe itself, the speed selected and the agitator fitted all change how hard the machine is working, and what a given model is rated to handle differs by model and by the tool in use. The recipe, the weight and the speed together describe the load; the bowl does not.
It is worth separating four observations. A machine that will not run at all may be reporting guard or bowl readiness rather than a fault. A stop that happens on one particular batch points at demand. A persistent error message that returns is a different record again. And scraping, knocking or a new noise is a mechanical observation that belongs on its own line, not folded into the others.
Model identity comes first, because ratings, controls and messages are not shared across the range or across brands. Manufacturer capacity guidance is written for named models, and applying one machine's figures to another is exactly the mistake this page is trying to prevent.

Which stopping pattern matches yours
These are categories to narrow the question before a visit, not a remote diagnosis. Confirmation requires on-site measurement.
- Will not start, or stops immediately — guard or bowl position involvedA readiness question before anything else. Note whether the guard was closed and the bowl fully raised and located, and what the machine displayed.
- Stops during one particular batch or recipePoints toward demand at a specific point in the mix. Record the recipe, batch weight, hydration, speed and agitator, and where in the mix it stopped.
- A persistent error message such as an Er code that keeps returningRecorded exactly as displayed and read against the documentation for that model. A returning message is evidence of a repeating condition, not a named component.
- Scraping, knocking or a new noise, with or without a stopA mechanical observation assessed separately. Note when in the mix it occurs and whether it changes with speed.
What you can safely observe yourself
Observations made with the mixer stopped and at rest — never with the machine running or hands near the bowl.
- Record the model and serial number from the data plate, and the agitator fitted
- Record the recipe, batch weight, hydration and the speed in use when it stopped
- Note whether the recipe, flour, batch size or speed changed recently
- Photograph the exact message displayed, if any
- With the machine stopped, note whether the guard closes properly and the bowl seats and locks normally
- Note where in the mix it stops, and whether it is repeatable
- Do not bypass, tape or defeat the guard, bowl interlock or any safety device
- Do not run larger or stiffer batches, or higher speeds, to test whether it will hold
- Do not restart repeatedly after a stop, and never place a hand near the bowl or agitator
What requires a technician on site
- Mechanical condition of drive, transmission and agitator mounting assessed on site
- Electrical behaviour under load measured rather than inferred from the stop
- Guard, bowl and interlock circuits verified in their normal operating sequence
- Displayed messages read against manufacturer service data for the specific model
- Observed operation compared with the load and speed the model is documented to handle
- Capacity and speed guidance is model-specific and is not carried across models or brands
- Electrical work is performed only within KONGRA's legal license scope, or coordinated with properly licensed independent contractors
- Safety interlocks are tested, never bypassed, and a machine found unsafe is reported as such
- Parts availability on older mixers can limit repair; KONGRA will say so rather than quote around it

The bowl was not full, so the batch cannot have been too heavy — is that right?+
Bowl volume on its own does not establish that a batch is within what the machine is rated to handle. Hydration, recipe, speed and the agitator fitted all change the demand, and ratings differ by model. The actual recipe, weight and speed are what get reviewed, not how full the bowl looked.
It only stops on one recipe. Does that rule out a fault?+
No. A batch-specific stop narrows the question — it suggests the problem appears at a particular demand — but mechanical, drive and control causes can all show up that way first. It is recorded as a pattern, then assessed on site.
Can we keep restarting it to finish the batch?+
Please do not. Repeated restarting after a stop under load adds heat and stress, and it removes the conditions a technician needs to observe. Stop the machine, record the recipe and what the display showed, and book the assessment.
